For those not in the know, every few months tons thousands of indie game developers spend a weekend to create a game over a 48 – 72 hour period for the Ludum Dare competition. For each competition, contestants vote for the theme of the competition and do what they can to create a game from scratch either alone, or in small groups for the looser “jam” that ties into said theme. Competition contestants are free to use any tools with the caveat that their code must be available for judging and that no private code or content can be created beforehand that others do not have access to. This time around, the theme for the competition had been voted to be “You Only Get One.”
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of gathering some friends to participate and help me create an awesome nugget of fun for the 72-hour jam. With everyone’s input and creativity, and despite an awfully literal headache, we’ve managed to finish our baby from start which has been dubbed, “2 Legs, 2 Many”, an upliftingly silly journey of a man’s rehabilitation of having only one limb, a leg. Loving a bad pun, I dare you to help encourage this man to complete his 10 physical therapy sessions and allow him to walk in full recovery! I warn you, like most physical therapy, it will not be easy. But you will be rewarded!
Special thanks go to Joshua Skeels for providing the original idea and gameplay, Michael Chadwick (@nebyoolae) for the soundtrack, and his lovely wife Robyn Chadwick for character art, level design, incredibly delicious baking, and hosting a location to create! Thanks to all who helped playtest and provide feedback over the weekend and beyond. Your energy helped keep this game fresh! Check out our game’s page and rank us up!
